“I’m so happy with what has happened”

“I’m so pleased. Can I give you a hug?”
Irene came into Citizens Advice in Shoreham to thank our Volunteer Advisor for all the help she’d received getting Attendance Allowance.
Last year was tough for Irene: she’d had many health problems and didn’t have much money to pay her bills, resulting in mounting stress. Irene hadn’t heard of Attendance Allowance until a friend suggested she might be eligible and suggested that she should try going to Citizens Advice.
She was given support through every part of the Attendance Allowance form. ‘It was about 50 pages’ Irene explained, but the advisor ‘stuck with it’.
A month later, Irene learnt that her application was successful and that she will be £74 better off per week. Her payment was also backdated. She is so relieved that she will now be able to make ends meet, and to pay for prescriptions.
Last year, we had 1,364 Attendance Allowance queries, helping people secure £1,498,492.
