Volunteering – Bella’s Story

When a client walks into any Citizens Advice office in West Sussex, their first contact is with one of our receptionists. This volunteer position is a key part of our organisation and we are always looking for new people to take up the role.
Bella* has been a receptionist at our Horsham office for just under two years. She volunteers one day a week and really looks forward to coming into the office.
She said: “I always like to support charities, but I live on very little money so I can’t give money, but I can give my time instead. ”
“I have worked for lots of charities, but the main reason I’m here is that the Citizens Advice once helped me out massively.”
Bella discovered the receptionist role at a Jobs Fayre, and she volunteers her time to fit around her paid employment. She added: “People should just do it and volunteer. This role keeps my brain active; I have contact with lots of people. It’s nice meeting people and there are nice staff around me.” In addition, she said she enjoys doing an admin role and learning new skills.
“Volunteering here makes me feel like I am doing something useful” she added.
