We can help if you are worried about paying your energy bills

As the cold weather starts to bite and energy costs rise, many people in West Sussex are worried about how to handle their bills, particularly gas and electricity.

Throughout the colder months, Citizens Advice West Sussex (CAWS) will be offering advice and support at local community ‘warm spaces’ such as libraries, community centres and town halls. Right across the county, from Crawley to Worthing and East Grinstead to Shoreham-by-Sea, CAWS advisers will offer proactive support and information on a wide range of energy-related matters.

CAWS Chief Executive Officer Emma Cross said:

“We are on a mission to help people stay warm this winter. We invite anyone in the local community to come and talk to us and get expert advice on how to save money on energy bills.

“We are full of information on available grants, fuel vouchers, debt support and energy efficiency. You don’t have to face your fears about your energy bills alone.”

CAWS has given energy advice to hundreds of local people over the last few years, on issues such as:

  • Energy bill payments
  • Taking action on energy debt
  • Switching suppliers
  • Signing up for grants
  • Understanding new schemes
  • Making your home more energy-efficient
  • Assisting with home improvements

Nadine Kearney, CAWS Service Operation Manager, commented: “By visiting local warm spaces in the heart of the community, we can reach people who might not otherwise seek help and discuss their energy-related concerns, without any stigma attached.

“Advice is given in an informal way with the option of more detailed support if needed. It also helps us build relationships in warm spaces so that the people who work there know they can signpost people to us as well. It’s a virtuous circle.”
