What is a eVisa?

The Home Office is replacing physical immigration documents with a digital proof of immigration status called an eVisa.

  • If you use a physical immigration document, you need to create a UKVI account. This will give you access to your eVisa.
  • Creating a UKVI account is free. Details of how to do this are available at www.gov.uk/eVisa
  • Updating from a physical document to an eVisa will not affect your immigration status, or the conditions of your permission to enter or stay in the UK

What documents are being replaced?

The benefits of an eVisa include:

  • You prove your status more quickly and easily at the UK border, and share it with people like employers and landords.
  • Unlike a physical document, they cannot be lost or stolen.
  • Ensures that you are compliant with UK rules.
